CCD Galaxy Imaging

The following galaxy images were taken using a Starlight Xpress MX5-C or SXV-H9 CCD camera. The telescopes used were a Celestron Ultima 9.25 and a Skywatcher ED80 refractor.

April 18th 2007. SXV-H9, Skywatcher ED80. L = 30x5min exposures at 1x1 binning. Processed using AstroArt 4.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS. The ED80 and SXV-H9 combination just allowed me to get both galaxies in the same field of view.

Several fainter galaxies such as NGC4217, NGC4248, NGC4226, NGC4231, NGC4232 and other even fainter galaxies are visible.

14th March 2007. SXV-H9. Celestron Ultima 9.25 with Baader Alan Gee reducer. 17x5min exposures at 1x1 binning. Processed using AstroArt 4.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS. Seeing not good with windy conditions.

NGC 4631 (Whale Galaxy) And  NGC 4656 (Hockey Stick Galaxy) In Canes Venatici

June 8th 2007. SXV-H9, Skywatcher ED80. L = 17x5min exposures at 1x1 binning. Processed using AstroArt 4.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS. This image shows the edge on galaxies NGC 4631 (top right) and NGC 4656 (bottom left). Just above NGC 4631 is a fainter companion galaxy NGC 4627.

June 8th 2007. SXV-H9, Skywatcher ED80. L = 15x5min exposures at 1x1 binning. Processed using AstroArt 4.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS. This galaxy group displays dramatically contrasting structures. This image could do with more exposures but the dawn twilight brought it to an end.

Galaxy & Stephan's Quintet In Pegasus

20th October 2007. SXV-H9. Skywatcher ED80. L = 25x5min exposures at 1x1 binning. Processed using AstroArt 4.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS. A rising half Moon caused background light and gradient problems. Stephan's Quintet is visible in lower right. Lots of other faint galaxies can also be seen.
